Request For: Pro and College Football
Request Title: Press Coverage/CB Depth
Description
I think the sim automatically adjusts CB depth based on how the deep zones are covered and WR speed vs CB speed. While that makes sense for a vanilla defense, it hinders the ability to scheme a blitz-happy pass defense. In RL football, when defenses bring pressure, the CBs are often pressing, even with a 0 or 1 safety look behind them.
The idea is to take away the quick passes so the pressure gets to the QB before he has time to exploit the weaker deep zone defense. Dropping the CBs allows the quick passes more room, somewhat neutralizing the blitz.
Along the same thought, allowing coaches to choose to press, may allow teams to build defenses around slower, stronger CBs.

Admin Notes
Agree with what how real-life teams blitz. The challenge here is that in-game adjustments are limited in DEL. A real-life team that was getting burned deep on blitzes (e.g., the rush wasn't getting there quick enough and the slow CB was getting burned) would either stop blitzing or back the corners off a little bit. In DEL, while you can set in-game adjustments, it is unlikely they would be enough to stop getting burned repeatedly.
Is there a better way to implement, such as possibly a "press" option (or even a hidden, automatic one that correlates with blitzing) that isn't absolute but instead relative for a particular combination of receiver and defender? That is, a slow corner on a fast receiver's "high press" may be the same as a fast corner on a slow receiver's "low press"?
Closing this request given lack of interest from other coaches.

Comments
Michael Scarn: I think that is a great way to implement it without leaving coaches susceptible to an unrealistic number of burnt coverages. It allows faster CBs more ability to press, while attempting to take away the quick routes. Good idea.
